The FSI Sisters in our parish belong to the Congregation of Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate. It was founded in Spain, by Mother Francisca Pascaul Domenech, in 1901. The patron saint of this Congregation is St. Francis of Assisi.

The FSI sisters came to India in 1974 and started their first convent in Nalgonda, Andhra Pradesh, with leprosy care. They started their first convent in Karnataka in 1976, with a leprosy home in Sumanahally, in Bangalore. In 1981, the FSI sisters opened a house in Richmond Circle, which is now the provincial house, with an orphanage for girls and a hostel for Girl students.

In 1991, the FSI sisters started a Novitiate/Formation House (JyothiBhavan) at Jambu Savari Dinne. In this campus they have a Day Care Center for little children of working mothers, and a Nursery/Kindergarten School called St. Francis Convent School. They are planning to make this into a full-fledged primary school in the near future. In Bangalore, near St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, at St. John’s Road, the FSI sisters are managing a destitute home for women that belongs to St. Vincent De Paul Society.

In Karnataka State, the FSI sisters have a Maternity cum General Hospital in Davanagere, and a boarding for poor girls. There are over 50 girls, from 1st standard to 10th standard, residing at this boarding. They are also managing diocesan Primary School in Davanagere. They have a house for destitute women at Brahmavara, Udupi District.

Besides Karnataka, FSI sisters have Special Education Centers in Ananthapur and Kadiri of Andhra Pradesh, teaching in a school in Kasargod, Kerala, an Old Age Home, a Kindergarten School and a Formation House in Margoa/Goa. They are working with Mont Fort Brothers in Cuttack, Orissa, managing diocesan high school in Kandwa, M.P., and taking care of a diocesan school in Aurangabad, in Ambajogan, Maharashtra.
